Head for the greenways!
The Greenway of the Great Lakes Seine and Aube joins Troyes to the lakes of the Orient Forest. You will cycle through changing landscapes: the plains of Champagne, the dams of the Lac Amance, the Forêt d’Orient… Since 2021, the greenway has been extended to allow you to cycle all the way around the Lac d’Orient to the beaches of Lusigny, Mesnil-St-Père and Géraudot. This leaves you with a wide choice for your picnic spot. This is a must for the people of Troyes who go to the green lung of the department at the weekend to get some fresh air!
To the north you can follow the greenway of the Haute-Seine canal. Over a distance of about forty kilometres, you can follow the canal in a shady, bucolic atmosphere where you will come across swans, ducks, moorhens and other cyclists. These completely safe routes allow you to enjoy long walks with your family with total peace of mind.
Cycling circuits in Renoir country
For art and history buffs and amateurs of fine bubbles, Essoyes is the place to go. This village on the Côte des Bar, which has been awarded the ““Petite Cité de Caractère” (Small Town with Character)” label, was home to the famous impressionist painter Pierre-Auguste Renoir, who used to come and enjoy his family home, the Rosé des Riceys, and above all the peace and quiet of the surrounding countryside.
From Essoyes, you will go to the vantage point of Noë-les-Mallets, a singular panorama which shows the beauty of the vineyards of the Côte des Bar.
Between vineyards and cultural heritage
Starting from the former Royal Crystal Factory in Bayel, you can also follow in the footsteps of the important historical characters of Champagne by cycling between different historical sites: the Cistercian Abbey of Clairvaux, founded by Saint Bernard, and the Charles de Gaulle Memorial, among others, are to be discovered in a 53km journey.
