What is kitesurfing?
Also known as windsurfing, flysurfing or kiteboarding, kitesurfing is a gliding sport that involves being pulled on a board hooked to a kite on the water using the wind. Kitesurfing is practised on bodies of water ( restricted to kitsurfing to avoid any risk of collision with swimmers or other water sports enthusiasts) during periods when the wind is out. Indeed, kitesurfing requires suitable take-off sites to allow the kitesurfers to unwind their line on the ground without endangering themselves or others.
Are you a beginner who wants to try this sport? Go to a kitesurfing school to learn the basics and the skills to practise this sport on your own at a later time. Are you a spectator? SPOT #1: Mesnil Saint-Père Beach
Level: Easy Location: from the fence of the lake house clubs to the Calypso restaurant lawn.
SPOT #2: Cale des pêcheurs (Fishermen’s hold)
Level: Advanced Location: at the fishermen’s slipway to the East of the Mesnil Saint-Père beach. Please note that navigation is not possible when the lake level is high.
SPOT #3: Cale des plongeurs (Diver’s hold)
Level: Difficult Location: at the bottom of the Mesnil Saint-Père harbour dyke.
SPOT #4: Géraudot Beach
Level: Medium Location: on the entire sandy beach. Beware, navigating is not permitted when the lake level is high.
SPOT #5: Beach of Lusigny-sur-Barse
Level: Medium Location: on the entire sandy beach. Beware, navigating is not permitted when the lake level is high.
In Aube en Champagne, only the Lac d’Orient is accessible for kitesurfing (when the water level is high enough). Moreover, kitesurfing is restricted to experienced kitesurfers from the first weekend in March to the third weekend in October. The practice on the beaches is more restrictive: no access to these spots is allowed between June 15th and September 15th, nor on big weekends and busy days.
