Circuit “The Sheep Trail”. Bouilly
8, 12 and 18 km. Wastelands, called “Essarts”, were used as pasture. They were bordered by a very small area of forest. During the summer, several shepherds herded cows and sheep. Each municipality had made fords for watering and washing. Rivalries clashed regularly with various municipalities Bouilly Souligny Villery, and Javernant Sommeval about the course of the herds, which were not allowed to graze or use fords if they did not belong to the village. Each municipality has instituted taxes by sheep or horned beast, for their use. Less useful, communal pastures were replaced gradually by 1847. Since 1860, these lands were periodically cultured and especially replanted. After 1900, pastures were finally abandoned.
