The "Forêt d'Orien"t Regional Nature Park is an exceptional site for bird watching. Thanks to the diversity of its landscapes – lakes, marshes, forests – it is home to more than 265 species throughout the year.
Highlights not to be missed:
- Autumn, with the spectacular arrival of migrating common cranes.
- Winter, when between 20,000 and 40,000 birds find refuge on the large lakes.
- Spring and summer, marked by the breeding season and the return of nesting birds.
Located between Géraudot and the Maison du Parc, the Bird Observatory is the only observation point on Lac d'Orient. Offering a breathtaking view of part of the Forêt d'Orient National Nature Reserve, in winter it reveals a lunar landscape, sculpted by the stumps of a forest swallowed up during the construction of the lake. However, contemplating these vast expanses of water, one could believe that Lac d'Orient has always existed...
From the observatory, you may be able to see:
- Emblematic species such as common cranes, many ducks and other water birds.
- A variety of wildlife, with wild boars sometimes venturing onto the banks at dusk.
Please note: As this observatory is located several meters above the ground, it is unfortunately not accessible to people with reduced mobility.
