Musée d’Art moderne - Collections nationales Pierre et Denise Lévy |
The tour begins on the 2nd floor, where the Lévy collection opens chronologically with a major trend in European art born in the mid-19th century: It then moves on to the major trends of the late 19th and mid-20th centuries, including the post-impressionists Seurat and Metzinger, the Nabis Bonnard, Édouard Vuillard, Ker-Xavier Roussel and Maurice Denis, and the Fauves Maurice de Vlaminck, Raoul Dufy, Georges Braque and Derain,
The non-Western arts in which modern artists sought a way to break free from Western tradition are represented in the exhibition, and inspired cubists such as Henri Hayden and Juan Gris.
The tour continues on the first floor, with two monographic areas dedicated to the two major artists in the collection, Maurice Marinot and André Derain, great friends of collectors Pierre and Denise Lévy. Other areas focus on the surrealism of Max Ernst and André Masson, the expressionism of Chaïm Soutine and Georges Rouault, and the inter-war period.
At the end of the tour, on the ground floor, we discover the figurative art of Balthus, Raoul Dufy, Bernard Buffet and La Seconde École de Paris with Maria Elena Vieira Da Silva and Nicolas de Staël. An entire room is devoted to Pierre and Denise Lévy, with the projection of an animated film. There are also areas devoted to other donations to the museum.
The renovation of the Museum of Modern Art is being funded by the State/DRAC Grand Est, the Région Grand Est, the Département de l'Aube, Troyes Champagne Métropole and the City of Troyes.
