Could the draper-weaver who occupied this house at the time have had the honor of trading with the Dauphin? In any case, the coat of arms of King François 1er's eldest son is engraved on the corner post at the corner of rue Célestin-Philbois and rue Kléber, perhaps to show that the business was a supplier to the royal household...

Restored in 2004, the six-bay Maison du Dauphin is typical of Trojan architecture, with its mullioned windows and corbelling, and features a front truss on rue Kléber and another on the rear façade.

Did you know?

Dauphin was the title worn by the lords of the principality of Dauphiné de Viennois, whose capital was Grenoble. Since its annexation to the Kingdom of France in 1349, the title has been attributed at birth to the eldest son of the King of France, heir to the throne. In the event of the dauphin's death, his younger brother took his place.
